MircosoftCore - 3D abstract art
During a corrospandance with Microsoft Store on X I asked them if they had any ideas for a fun challenged, and they responded with:
“It would be pretty cool to see you make something using the colors in our logo”
So this project is based of that.
The abstract/dreamcore style I was working with is something I have been wanting to challenge myself with for a long long time and this oppotunity was perfect!
Made with Blender
My first idea was to have a diamond in the middle of two flowing curtains. The two plains are parented to an empty circle. This way I can rotate the empty, letting the fabric flow evenly.
Moving away from the diamond I played around with different placement of the fabric (now 4). I liked the calmness of the fabrics laying on the ground but I didn't think it translated well into the colors of Mircosoft logo.
Playing around with the placement of the fabric some more, and I ended on this frame. I liked that it was a little playfull and that the gave the colors some pop.
Playing around with the fabrics placement some more.
Adding clouds is always either super easy or a bit of a fiddle-work but this time the skybox and the cloud worked nicely togeather. Here you can also see the first frame of the fabrics. See GIF below to see the flow of the fabric.
Playing around is always fun, and I like the idea or more windows scattered around the frame. However for this project I found it a little too busy, but it did spark some quriosity in me to see if I could use this for another project.
Here you can see the final result and how it's setup is in Blender.
Fabric flow - EEVEE rendered.
Just for fun I rendered out an animation of the fabric flow.
As for collision, I only fucused on self-collision and on the ground. For this project there was no need for my poor computer to work overtime by putting on collision on the mirror or on each fabric.
Working with satin fabrics in real life and in Blender is very similare. It’s very slippery and has it’s own agenda until you realize how to exploid that. And in the end the result is super satisfying and giving!
